Olympic venues
The Olympic Games of 1896 were held in the Panathenaic
Stadium. Today the Panathenaic Stadium stands as
a monument to the Olympic Games. It is a popular
tourist attraction with its fine and noble history.
Through out the years the venues in the host cities has become something of a trademark for the Olympic Games. The grand opening of the Olympic Games and in the Olympic Stadium is the biggest sports and media event in the world. 2004.com is proud to present the different Olympic venues in Athens.
The Olympic
Stadium
The Opening Ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games will
be held at the Olympic Stadium which is situated
at Marousi, a northern suburb of Athens. The stadium
is part of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OCO).
The stadium has a capacity to host 75.000 spectators.
The architect Santiago Calatrava has been given
the assignment to redesign and upgrade OCO in an
creative and innovative way. The renovation and
extension of OCO area is scheduled to be completed
in April 2004.
The Olympic
Indoor Hall
You will find the Olympic Indoor Hall at the Athens
Olympic Sports Complex (OCO). It has a seating capacity
of 18.000 spectators. Gymnastics (artistic & trampoline)
and Basketball games (finals) will take place here.
The renovation is scheduled to be completed in October
2003.
The Olympic
Tennis Centre
The Olympic Tennis Centre is another arena in the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OCO). It consists of the main court (8,000 seats), two semi-final courts (4,000 and 2,000 seats, respectively), and 13 other courts (200 seats each). The worlds best tennis players will compete for the gold medal at the main court. The main court is a brand new construction and the other courts are renovated. The Tennis Centre is scheduled to be completed in July 2003.

Aquatics Centre
The Olympic Aquatics Centre, is the fourth main arena located at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex (OCO). Swimming, Synchronised Swimming, Water Polo and Diving are the events that will take place here. The Centre consists of two outdoor and one indoor pool.
The Main Pool has a capacity of 11,000 seats, the Synchronised Swimming Pool has a capacity of 5.000 seats and the Indoor Pool has a capacity of 6.500 seats. Swimming and Water Polo events will be held at the Main Pool, Synchronised Swimming will be held at the Synchronised Swimming Pool and Water Polo and Diving will be held at the Indoor Pool. The Olympic Aquatic Centre is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2003.

Sailing Centre
A new temporary construction, with a capacity of 3,000 seats is in construction in Agios Kosmas, a coastal area in southern Attica. This is where The Olympic Sailing Center is located. By January 2004 the center is scheduled to be completed.
