Sorry, your browser doesn't support Java(tm). The neo-classical architectural complex includes three structures designed by the danish architects Christian and Theophil Hansen. The National Library (on the left) and the University of Athens (in the middle) and the Academy of Athens to the right. The Academy was designed by the younger of the Hansen brothers, Theophil, and built between 1859 and 1887. The complex stands between Akadimias Street and Panepistimiou (Venizelou) Street in the heart of the city. The main entrance of the Academy is flanked by two tall Ionic columns carrying statues of Apollo and Athena.
